For true meat lovers, Antica Trattoria del Reno is much more than just a reference point – it’s a barbecue paradise.
Despite its somewhat out-of-the-way location, the restaurant, passionately and successfully run by Enrico Bigi – affectionately known as “Berry” – draws a lively crowd every night. From the beginning, Berry stood out for his intuitive and skilled approach to smoking meats, quickly earning a reputation as one of Italy’s top grillers, with accolades in major food guides.

Over time, he has taken things even further, dedicating a section of the menu to dry-aged meats – matured cuts that enhance marbling, richness, and intensity, sourced from ethical breeds around the world, some in exclusive selections. These meats are displayed in cutting-edge aging cabinets at the entrance, setting the tone for the experience. The knowledgeable, friendly staff – a longstanding team – explains these cuts in detail, contributing to the warm, joyful trattoria atmosphere that fills the two dining rooms.

The menu caters to all budgets without compromising satisfaction. While the premium cuts are highly recommended, diners can also enjoy signature dishes inspired by American steakhouses with a local twist – like piadine or tigelle filled with pulled pork, even stuffed into tortelloni. The menu also features excellent tartares, tender roast beef, and a variety of personalized sides and sauces. Iberian-style croquetas and tortillas make perfect starters for sharing.

To round out the meal, the dessert list pays homage to American bakery classics, providing a sweet finish to a meal defined by juicy, flavorful meats. The only area that falls slightly short is the wine list, which could benefit from broader international selections and more depth.
