www.iporticihotel.comPortici stands out as one of Bologna’s most illustrious and virtuous hospitality venues, dedicated to delivering top-quality gastronomic experiences across multiple settings throughout the day. Despite staff changes in recent years, it consistently maintains its excellence, proudly holding the city’s only Michelin star in a context often marked by ongoing urban renewal and media attention.
The venue offers a remarkable ambiance: the Liberty-style interiors of Palazzo Maccaferri, the auditorium-style room in the former Eden Theatre, and the historic 14th-century Icehouse—once a papal reserve—now open by reservation and decorated with medieval touches, all set against transparent glass walls showcasing a temperature-controlled wine cellar.
Accommodations include suites in Liberty and modern styles, complemented by ten dedicated spaces for relaxation, meetings, events, and dining. The Academy is Bologna’s largest and most elegant culinary-educational space, hosting courses, tastings, and workshops to promote gastronomic culture. The Portici Boutique, visible from both the interior and overlooking the Two Towers, is renowned across Italy for its fresh pasta and leavened products.
Since 2012, the Michelin-starred kitchens have seen influential culinary styles, most recently under Executive Chef Nicola Annunziata, who blends Emilia’s Mediterranean flavors with personal touches and technical mastery. The focus on bread, with precise leavening techniques inspired by Pastry Chef Vincenzo Digifico—also responsible for the bakery at Caffé Eden—results in exquisite baked goods and spectacular desserts. Fermentation, texture, saltiness, and acidity are carefully balanced, highlighting premium ingredients like meats, fish, and vegetables.
Dishes range from oriental broths to French-inspired risottos, such as Riserva San Massimo, featuring shallots, Parmigiano Reggiano aged 24 months, beet extract, and braised rooster crests in red wine, evoking Anthony Genovese’s umami mastery. The duck, cooked on the carcass with apricot chutney, cacao crumble, passion fruit gel, and the signature Scquacquerone cheese, offers a bold interplay of sweet and sour flavors.
Portici also hosts an Osteria serving traditional yet creative cuisine for lunch and dinner, along with a charming pizzeria on the terrace overlooking the scenic Pincio staircase—creating a unique enogastronomic experience in Bologna.
