ristorantegrassilli.weebly.comThe timeless charm of Grassilli remains unparalleled. Few mention it, but many know that Grassilli is still one of the absolute best restaurants in the city center. Tucked away near the stunning Piazza Santo Stefano, it preserves years of history within its intimate and romantic setting, requiring reservations for dinner. Warm tones and a bohemian atmosphere surround diners, while vintage photographs of national and international celebrities line the walls—remnants of the opera singer Francesco Grassilli’s vision to recreate a Belle Époque ambiance in the aftermath of World War II.
The restaurant’s culinary foundation was laid in the 1980s by Jacques Durussel, former personal chef to Liz Taylor. His influence is still alive through his son, Jean David, blending French haute cuisine with Bolognese tradition in a seamless and flavorful fusion. Their legendary tortellini in brodo is an aromatic masterpiece, while the handmade, rough-textured tagliatelle al ragù bursts with extraordinary spice. Seasonal highlights include terrines and kidney dishes in winter, and the unmissable cotoletta alla bolognese, elegantly bathed in a rich brown sauce. For traditionalists, a perfectly executed Wiener schnitzel is available, alongside refined classics like filet Rossini and beef Wellington upon request.
Desserts are equally exceptional: the caramelized tarte Tatin is a must, but the true standout is the Mont Blanc—a divine combination of chestnut flour “spaghetti” mousse, meringue, crème anglaise, and a blanket of whipped cream, ranking among the best in the world. The service is masterfully led by Luca Fantuzzi, who also curates a brilliant wine selection, emphasizing regional excellence.
