It was 1946 when Leonida Mirri opened the current venue in the narrow Vicolo Alemagna, one of the many hidden corners of Piazza Santo Stefano. He was one of the many heroes who helped revive Bolognese cuisine after the war, but also became a historic and recognized figure — like when, between 1953 and 1954, Aldo Fabrizi spent several weeks at these very tables along with the film crew working on “They Stole a Tram.” Both Leonida and his mother appeared in the film, simply playing themselves.

At the stove, his wife Laura eventually took over. In addition to preparing game, wild meats, and grilled dishes, she would also wield the rolling pin to satisfy the many writers, politicians, and sociologists who — to this day — still frequent the restaurant.

The place was later gifted to the current owner, Dante Naldi. Official records might tell you otherwise, but one can still find Dante in the kitchen today, full of energy, cooking just like in the old days — supported by his son and a solid, close-knit team.

The dining room exudes authenticity, and the kitchen has resisted modern trends. The strength and homemade flavors are far more satisfying and reassuring than many of its historic peers today. The lasagna, the succulent rabbit, the tagliatelle with seasonal mushrooms, and the tortelloni continue to win over guests and reaffirm their reputation.
